A smart grid is a holistic solution that employs a huge range of IT resources countless applications and permutations, including smart meters that allow the existing and new grid lines to control the energy waste and costs. India is set to record the largest increase in the energy demand across the world over the next 20 years. Although the electric grid is considered an engineering prodigy, it is being stretched to its capacity with the ever-increasing demand for power generation, supply and distribution. So, to deal with it, we require a smart electricity grid and smart meters and smart systems that can automate and manage the complexities of the electricity and its future needs. On this note, EPR recently hosted a live conference on “Smart Electricity in India: The Road Ahead”, on June 18th, 2021. Experts across the power sector discussed the push for modernisation and urbanisation towards smart electricity. The event also deliberated on the government policies, initiatives and technology solutions that can fast-track the transformation.
